Domaining, Internet Marketing & SEO - DomainerSEO RSS

Building a website is just the first step. Search engine optimization (SEO) will get your site listed in Google and other search engines. That's a good start, but marketing and promotion will bring in even more traffic.

If you own domains that you are not using you can park them and earn money. These parked domains can even earn more than fully developed domains. Sounds simple, right? It can be, but it may be hard to know how to start. I spend a lot of time helping people earn money from domain parking at parkquick.com. This site will be more free-form. I'll add stuff here that's too brief or too ephemeral to add to ParkQuick.

I'm coming at this from a different angle. I'm a domainer first. I'm learning the rest of it. I'll share a lot of what I learn - but who shares everything?

SEO - from Domain Parking to Domain Developing

How do you get from parking domains to developing websites? While there are many different routes, getting traffic to a full-blown site (using SEO techniques) is actually easier than trying to get traffic to a parked domain.

Start by designing your web site and then filling it with content. Design and content are your top priorities, as it should be easy to navigate and understand. Original content is greatly preferred. You can find lots of guidelines on Web design, about colors and pictures, fonts and stuff. Search engines don’t really care how pretty the site is.

In the early days of Internet there were just a few sites, and the users were mostly academics at a university or laboratory using it to access scientific data. In those days the problem of finding information on the Internet wasn’t a problem at all.

Things have changed, and most people use search engines to get to the information or site they need. The Web is huge and is expanding each day, so the search spiders are the only hope to keep track of all new places. Since early 90’s search engines began cataloging websites on the internet, and since that time the people are doing all the best they can to improve the rankings of a website in the search engine results pages. Website owners discovered that by changing certain factors, they could greatly influence these rankings. This is called search engine optimization or SEO.

Search engines are a source of huge amounts of potential traffic that can make your website successful. This means increased sales, fame, branding or whatever your goal. It sounds obvious, right? But you will be amazed how many commercial websites are designed and set up by people who know little or nothing about search engine optimization — how to give the search engines what they want to see when they index your site. Making a site “search engine-friendly” or “optimized” is probably the most important aspect of website design. Lots of content and straightforward navigation (using text links as well as graphics) will help Google and the other engines find and rank your site.
